Flying ApplesX Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Screen Saver
30th Aug 2009 ·Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard version of the Flying Apples screen saver.
This screensaver came about more out of accident than anything else. I needed to get to grips with texture masking and this project helped me along the way.
It's nothing special, but might be of amusement for some the code is OpenGL Based and loads images with a mask to view the logo moving through space (like a default Windows Screen Saver you may be familiar with).

Screen Savers
30th Aug 2009 ·I am currently updating all the Mac Screen Savers I have done for compatibility with Snow leopard (10.6).
I'll rename all the screensavers with an X at the end mainly for my own ease of use.
They will all be uploaded tonight (UK Sunday night) and I'll start re-adding them to the Apple site as well.
Thanks too Markus D and Kim Pitchla for pointing out they don't work. I didn't realise they wouldn't so went out bought a copy of Snow Leopard and are currently re-compiling the screen savers.
The updated XCode is much better and even pointing out some mistakes in my code (oops) so along the way they should be getting better
Noel Quits Oasis
29th Aug 2009 ·Well time will tell what happens with this but seems like Noel has quite.
Some might say (sic) that Noel was the brains in the group, but without Liam's specific style Oasis would not be what it was.
On the plus side, maybe Oasis will carry on without Noel (and the possibility that he will still contribute songs) and also have his own side lines in either his own band or collaborations.
I grew up through the Oasis rise to fame, and I loved it, the bickering, the fantastic songs, it all contributed to a big push of the style of music I grew to love.
Good things never last, and the reported spats between the brothers seemed to be under control.
A few variations of Phoenix can rise from these ashes.
Outages and Updates
28th Aug 2009 ·Here in the U of the K it's a Friday before a bank Holiday Monday.
This means one of two things, 1 things are going to go nuts this afternoon. or 2 Nothing at all will happen this afternoon.
As a result I'm going to take the opportunity to give the site a touch of an update.
Not the best time to do it, but I'll do it in parallel so the site won't get affected (in theory).
I'm going to fix the width issue so youtube's (new dammed format) will fit better and also see if I can get a iPhone specific version working (as I now have an iphone).
I'm also going to change the CSS completely whilst keeping the site's layout exactly the same (I hate the current CSS it's far to complicated).
Update: Ok if you want to take a look here it is still got to test it, also it should now recognise an iphone and display better saving time doing the pinchy thing.
Finger Thursday List
27th Aug 2009 ·Saw a recent episode of House (House MD for the US I believe) and it reminded me when I cut the top of my finger off.
Off to the A&E I went and waited in line before I got my turn with the prep nurse.
My finger hurt, not shouting crying agony hurt but hurt as much as cutting off the end of the finger could*.
The nurse set about inspecting the cut with lots of umm's and yeessss's thrown in presumably to comfort me and make me think she knows what she is doing.
Little did I know however was this was a ploy. A dirty low down rotten ploy to get me to drop my guard.
The second my aforementioned guard was well and truly dropped the nurse, quick as a flash with a vice like grip grabbed my hand and started to rub, not unlike a carpenter on a piece of wood, what I can only describe as metal wire gauze over the top of my missing ended finger.
I went red, and rather than let out a wild scream chose instead to create the beginnings of a no doubt later in life problematic hernia.
I calmly, cooly and collectively mentioned to the nurse "FUCKIN 'ELL ARE YOU DOING".
She let go of my hand and explained that it's the best way to get rid of any infection and get the blood going. It worked blood was pouring out of it.
Eventually I saw the doctor and was informed that the end of my finger would grow back (I had to ask him to clarify this 3 times as it seemed like a load of crap). And low and behold it did (I can't even remember what finger it was, on no wait it's the slightly shorter one).
* For those interested I cut my finger off cutting out paper on a artboard. Whilst holding a metal ruler in place my finger was hanging over the edge (unbeknownst to be me) and as I quickly and efficiently cut through and down the rule I went straight through my own overhanging finger. Never in my life have I felt quite as odd as I did then pulling my finger up from the ruler and leaving the end upright still balanced on the artwork. Suffice to say I was quite annoyed that the artwork was ruined.
Ok then, listing twisting time.

Extended Version of Prince of Bel Air
It's just not right. (lyrics follow)
And the lyrics:
Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I liked to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air
In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys
Who were up to no good
Startin making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'
I begged and pleaded with her day after day
But she packed my suite case and send me on my way
She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket.
I put my walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'.
First class, yo this is bad
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass.
Is this what the people of Bel-Air Living like?
Hmmmmm this might be alright.
I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I can say this cab is rare
But I thought 'Now forget it' - 'Yo homes to Bel Air'
I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later'
I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air

20th Aug 2010 ·Afternoon all, Jesus tees off first hitting his ball straight into the water hazard. He simply walks across the water and hits his ball just short of the green. When Moses tees off, he hits his ball into the same water hazard. So, he parts the water and puts his golf ball just shy of the hole. As the old man tees off he hits his ball with tremendous power, but hooks it badly. It bounces off a tree and hits the caddy shack. It then rolls down a path to a pond where a frog eats the ball and swims to the other side of the pond. Suddenly an eagle swoops down and grabs the frog and flies off. As the eagle is flying over the green the frog drops the ball. The ball drops directly into the hole for a hole in one. Moses turns to Jesus and says "I hate playing golf with your Dad."

Motorists caught racing through motorway roadworks ended up being hit by more than £5m worth of speeding tickets last year. - Not been done on this, thankfully.
Of all the speeding offences 90+% are fixed penally notices. - Tick, got done by this.
Thought of the week.
Apple is very closed, they are right, everyone else is wrong (suppliers). However it was noted on a website that Apple have sent an update out for OS X that fixes graphics issues.
This is pretty much due in part to Valve releasing games for the Mac. It's further rumoured that the uptake of the games is astronomical.
Nothing Like a shit load of money to make Apple stand to attention.
