I never really looked into any of the controversy of his life, and I'm sure I will be finding out about it over the next year.
What I did do however was read every book he ever wrote* (that I could find) and co-wrote (with Gentry Lee to name but one).
I enjoyed them immensely, especially all the Rama books.
In fact it has only really been the last 5 years where I have ventured away from Science Fiction books that he got me so enthralled in.
UPDATE: * Turns out he wrote 100 books so I have around 40 more books to find. Although some (like the Sentinal) were early works of books re-done later in his life.
